Former Toledo Resident Sentenced for Restroom Voyeurism

A cellphone tucked into a unisex restroom at ProMedica Toledo Hospital has ended the medical career of Advait Deshmukh. The former University of Toledo resident received a six-month jail sentence after investigators discovered he had secretly recorded hospital staff members over a period spanning several months.

Deshmukh pleaded guilty in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to one count of attempted tampering with evidence and seven counts of voyeurism. Beyond his incarceration, the court mandated three years of probation, mandatory attendance at Sexaholics Anonymous, and registration as a sex offender for the next 15 years. He will remain under active adult probation until June 2029.

The investigation began in June 2025 when a hospital employee found a concealed device. When a witness tried to remove the phone, Deshmukh intervened to claim ownership. Subsequent forensic analysis by Toledo Police recovered over 80 illicit images taken between February and May 2025, involving six identified victims. Investigators suspect the pattern of behavior may date back as far as 2018. At the time of his arrest, Deshmukh was a third-year resident specializing in endourology and urologic oncology. The University of Toledo terminated his appointment following an internal review, and he has since apologized to his victims while undergoing court-ordered mental health treatment.
