Sonia Gandhi Intervenes as Opposition Leaders Face Detention in Delhi

Sonia Gandhi arrived at Mandir Marg Police Station on Tuesday evening, seeking answers after Delhi Police detained a phalanx of senior opposition figures. The crackdown followed a high-stakes protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, where leaders demanded accountability for the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The demonstration turned into a flashpoint for political confrontation as Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were taken into custody. Congress officials characterized the police response as an exercise in excessive force, with MP Rajeev Shukla alleging that security personnel employed brutal tactics against lawmakers during the dispersal process.

While the Congress party insists on a comprehensive inquiry into the examination scandal and the conduct of the police, the government has dismissed the agitation as performative. Union Minister Jitendra Singh publicly accused Rahul Gandhi of inconsistency, claiming the opposition’s shifting stance undermines the gravity of the issue. Despite the dismissals, Congress leadership maintains that the fight for transparency will persist both on the streets and within the upcoming parliamentary sessions.
