India and Morocco deepen diaspora ties in Casablanca

Under the banner of Connect with India 2026, roughly 150 members of the Indian diaspora gathered at Le Meridien Casablanca on Sunday. The embassy-led event served as both a cultural bridge and a strategic forum, aiming to align the local community with New Delhi's evolving investment and citizenship policies.

Ambassador Sanjay Rana utilized the platform to detail recent reforms to the Overseas Citizenship of India program and the revamped 'Know India' initiative for youth. He urged the diaspora to engage more deeply with the India-Morocco Business Chamber and help establish a formal professional network within the country. These efforts coincide with preparations for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, slated for 2027.

Local figures, including Dev Anand of Satguru Travel and Colin Nebhwani from the India-Morocco Business Chamber, noted the growing significance of the community in facilitating bilateral trade. The evening shifted from policy discussions to cultural exchange, featuring performances by Moroccan artists and a fusion of culinary traditions. The gathering underscored a deepening people-to-people connection that extends beyond formal state channels, setting a foundation for expanded economic and social cooperation in the coming years.
