Trinamool Rebel Faction Challenges Party Leadership Over Financial Control

Ritabrata Banerjee is maneuvering to seize control of Trinamool Congress assets, claiming his rebel faction has filed formal documentation with the Election Commission to secure official recognition. His push centers on a challenge to the party’s current financial stewardship and the freezing of its accounts by federal investigators.

Banerjee’s bid hinges on the contention that the party’s massive financial reserves are being mismanaged. He specifically targeted the Enforcement Directorate’s decision to freeze accounts, arguing that the annual interest alone—exceeding Rs 1,000 crore—should be redirected toward grassroots organizers instead of serving a small clique of party elites.

To consolidate his position, the rebel leader has pledged to implement a quarterly public audit of all expenditures if his faction gains authority over the party coffers. He also intends to use these funds to provide financial assistance to the families of the July 21st martyrs, a strategic move aimed at securing loyalty and framing the current leadership as disconnected from the party’s foundational base.
