Fadnavis Backs Delhi Police Response to Jantar Mantar Unrest

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has defended the Delhi Police’s intervention during recent protests at Jantar Mantar, arguing that the line between protected constitutional assembly and orchestrated disruption was crossed. He insists that demonstrations lacking transparent leadership are vulnerable to manipulation and invite inevitable public disorder.

The Chief Minister framed the police response as a necessary measure to restore stability, distinguishing between legitimate grievances and agitation intended to provoke chaos. While acknowledging that peaceful protest remains a fundamental right, Fadnavis suggested that the events in Delhi were derailed by external elements exploiting leaderless groups for political agendas.

Fadnavis maintained that the state holds a responsibility to curb violence, even when individual participants may not share the destructive intent of the collective movement. By highlighting the risks of unauthorized or ambiguous protest structures, he signaled support for stricter enforcement to prevent future escalations in the capital.
