Rajya Sabha Reshuffle and Legislative Agenda Head Monsoon Session

The Monsoon Session of Parliament kicks off with a strategic reshuffle in the Upper House, as Union Minister L Murugan introduces a motion to appoint Bhim Singh and Sagarika Ghose to the Joint Committee, filling vacancies left by the recent resignations of Saket Gokhale and Bhubaneswar Kalita.

The proposed appointments aim to restore the committee’s composition for the review of the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. These legislative pieces remain central to the session's agenda, requiring swift concurrence from the Rajya Sabha to proceed as recommended by the Lok Sabha.

Beyond these appointments, the session is set to address oversight of oil Public Sector Undertakings, with Union Minister Suresh Gopi expected to provide updates on ongoing litigation detailed in the Committee's Fourth Report. Simultaneously, BJP leader Sanjay Seth will move to nominate a representative for the Central Advisory Committee of the NCC. These procedural moves underscore emerging political alignments and signal the intensity of the debates anticipated throughout the session.
