Banerjee dismissed criticism regarding his role in past electoral setbacks, pointing instead to the party’s capture of 29 seats in West Bengal during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as evidence of his effectiveness. He argued that the current wave of defections follows a script dictated by the BJP, suggesting that public criticism of his leadership serves as a strategic maneuver to appease authorities and avoid investigation. He questioned the timing of these departures, noting that leaders who chose to leave only after the vote counting concludes are motivated by self-preservation rather than ideology.
Beyond the political maneuvering, Banerjee addressed the physical destruction of his office, characterizing the demolition as a calculated act of intimidation. While local authorities frame the action as part of an anti-encroachment drive in South 24 Parganas, veteran MP Saugata Roy condemned the event as a targeted, undemocratic strike. Banerjee vowed to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court, framing the incident as a clear instance of political retaliation that he intends to challenge through the judicial system.
