Skyroot Aerospace Launches India's First Private Vikram-1 Rocket

Bright orange flames cut through the morning air above Sriharikota as the Vikram-1 rocket ascended, signaling a pivotal shift for India’s space industry. Following a brief planned hold, the vehicle cleared the launchpad, marking the debut of a fully privately developed launch system designed to reach Earth's orbit.

Built by Skyroot Aerospace, the rocket distinguishes itself through an all-carbon composite structure, offering a strength-to-weight ratio that surpasses traditional rocket-grade steel. The vehicle is more than a structural feat; its Orbital Adjustment Module features a liquid engine produced entirely via 3D printing. These engineering choices reflect a broader push toward indigenous manufacturing in the aerospace sector.

Mission Aagaman carries a diverse manifest ranging from symbolic tributes to functional technology. The payload includes the EMBRACE mission, which tests robotic arm systems intended for future space debris removal. Beyond the technical hardware, the rocket transports artistic and commemorative items, including a miniature gold sculpture honoring Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Sir CV Raman, and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, alongside a lab-grown 'Cosmic Bloom' diamond and a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
