The Hyderabad-based startup aims to disrupt the global space market by addressing the bottleneck of long wait times for satellite launches. While conventional rockets operate like public buses on fixed schedules, Vikram-1 functions as a dedicated taxi service. It allows satellite operators to book custom launches for payloads up to 350 kilograms, bypassing the months or years of waiting typically required to secure a flight on larger launch vehicles.
Technically, the rocket represents a leap in domestic manufacturing. Built by a team of former Indian Space Research Organisation scientists, the vehicle features an all-carbon composite structure and 3D-printed liquid engines. The debut mission will target a 450-kilometre orbit to validate its guidance and stage separation systems. If the flight succeeds, it will prove that decentralized, point-to-point orbital delivery is commercially viable for international tech firms seeking rapid, precise access to space.
