The scheme, originally designed to provide Rs 15,000 per school-going child, has seen actual disbursements drop to as low as Rs 8,000 in some cases. Satyanarayana pointed to a stark misalignment between policy promises and fiscal reality: while the program requires Rs 13,000 crore to function as intended, the state budget allocated only Rs 9,605 crore, of which just Rs 8,484 crore has reached the ground.
Beyond the funding deficit, the YSRCP is demanding full transparency regarding beneficiary counts and the status of outstanding payments as the program enters its third year. The opposition also leveled broader accusations against the administration, alleging that educational reforms like the Nadu-Nedu programme have stalled. Satyanarayana further charged the government with politicizing the recent visit of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to the families of missing fishermen and facilitating illicit land acquisition.
