Russian Strike on Odesa Port Infrastructure Claims Three Lives

Three people died Wednesday following a Russian assault on Odesa, a critical hub for Ukraine’s maritime trade. The strike, which targeted residential areas and port facilities, marks a sharp escalation in Moscow’s campaign against the Black Sea infrastructure essential to the nation's wartime economy and international shipping lanes.

Serhiy Lysak, the regional military administration head, confirmed the fatalities and reported that three additional victims remain hospitalized. While officials have not released a full assessment of the destruction, reports indicate significant damage to civilian housing and regional infrastructure. The strike follows a separate drone attack late Tuesday that hit port facilities, injuring two people and damaging a Marshall Islands-flagged civilian vessel.

Governor Oleh Kiper noted that the persistent targeting of the Greater Odesa area aims to cripple deepwater ports. These facilities serve as the primary lifeline for Ukrainian exports, and the recent surge in aerial assaults underscores a deliberate strategy to disrupt trade routes that have remained operational despite the ongoing conflict.
