Kremlin Rejects Exclusion from Ukrainian Security Talks

The Kremlin has formally challenged Western efforts to sideline Moscow from future Ukrainian security arrangements, dismissing German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s push for an exclusion-based peace process. This diplomatic friction underscores a deepening divide over whether peace can be brokered independently of the nation currently occupying significant swaths of Ukrainian territory.

Dmitry Peskov characterized the German stance as a dead-end strategy, warning that such an approach effectively bars European nations from meaningful participation in any eventual settlement. While Kyiv insists that ironclad Western security guarantees are the only path to preventing future aggression, Moscow maintains that any framework ignoring its involvement is fundamentally flawed.

Beyond the geopolitical deadlock, Peskov also addressed the European Union’s latest sanctions targeting the technology giant VK. He dismissed the punitive measures as absurd, asserting that the restrictions fail to impede the company’s operations. Although critics contend that VK serves as a vehicle for internal repression, the Kremlin continues to frame the company’s resilience as evidence of the sanctions' systemic failure.
