The investment, supported by the EU’s InvestEU programme, funds a multi-year strategy to upgrade wastewater treatment and replace aging pipelines. AIMAG will integrate remote-control digital monitoring systems to shift from reactive repairs to predictive maintenance, a move expected to curb water losses and ensure service continuity during extreme weather events like droughts or floods.
Beyond technical upgrades, the agreement serves as a cornerstone for AIMAG’s 2025–2028 business plan. CFO Marco Malavolta noted that the financing concludes a two-year restructuring effort, securing more favorable borrowing terms for the utility. The EIB’s involvement here mirrors its wider push into the Italian water sector, where the bank deployed €837 million in 2025 alone to support operators including ACEA and SMAT, prioritizing long-term climate resilience across the national water grid.
