DP World Targets Fujairah for Strategic Port Expansion

Dubai’s port giant DP World is negotiating the construction of a new multipurpose terminal on the UAE’s east coast, a move designed to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. By expanding into Fujairah, the operator seeks to reduce its heavy dependence on the Jebel Ali port and secure a vital alternative maritime gateway.

The proposed development includes a new terminal within the existing Fujairah harbor alongside an entirely new port facility. This expansion represents a significant shift in regional logistics, offering a buffer against potential disruptions in the narrow Strait of Hormuz, through which a substantial portion of global energy supplies currently pass. While the Financial Times first reported the ongoing negotiations, the company has not yet provided official confirmation of the project's scope or timeline. If completed, the infrastructure would fundamentally alter trade routes across the emirate, providing a more versatile entry point for goods arriving from the Indian Ocean.
