Houthi Forces Threaten Retaliation After Sanaa Airport Strike

Sanaa’s international airport is once again a flashpoint in the Yemeni civil war after a series of air strikes prompted the Iran-aligned Houthi movement to declare an end to recent de-escalation efforts. The group now threatens a direct military response against Saudi Arabia following the targeted runway bombardment.

The Saudi-led coalition has not yet issued a formal response to the Monday strikes. However, the internationally recognized government, operating from the south, confirmed its forces executed the operation. Officials stated the strike was a preemptive measure designed to intercept an incoming Iranian aircraft, which they allege was carrying prohibited cargo.

Simmering hostilities have further intensified with accusations from Information Minister Moammar Al-Eryan, who claimed the Houthi movement is currently detaining an International Committee of the Red Cross aircraft in the capital. The Houthis, who seized control of Sanaa over a decade ago, remain locked in a protracted proxy struggle against the Saudi-backed administration, leaving the future of the fragile regional calm increasingly uncertain.
