The fire began near the venue's front stage around midnight on Monday. Preliminary reports from authorities point to an electrical short circuit in a ceiling-mounted air conditioning unit as the likely ignition point. The flames quickly consumed foam soundproofing material, causing thick black smoke to fill the pub within minutes. Survivors described the rapid transition from the smell of burning to a full-scale inferno, forcing a desperate scramble toward the rear of the establishment.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed that evacuation efforts were crippled by negligence. Both designated emergency exits were blocked—one by beer crates near the kitchen and another by a table. Firefighter Chakrit Khongkom, who led the rescue operation, noted that rescuers discovered multiple victims near the building's toilets, indicating that many patrons had retreated to the back as the main entrance became impassable. Of the 63 injured, 22 remain in critical condition. Forensic teams are now investigating potential violations of fire safety regulations, as the government faces mounting pressure to enforce stricter inspections across the city's entertainment districts.
