Khurshid and Abbas Challenge Hindu Rashtra Rhetoric

The push for a 'Hindu Rashtra' met sharp resistance from political and religious leaders this week, as Congress veteran Salman Khurshid and cleric Saif Abbas framed the Indian Constitution as the country's ultimate protective barrier against sectarian division and the erosion of secular democratic principles.

Salman Khurshid directly countered Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s recent advocacy for a Hindu-centric state, arguing that the Constitution ensures a necessary, inclusive space for every faith. He challenged the intentions behind cultural narratives that prioritize exclusion, maintaining that the Congress party remains anchored to the foundational unity of the nation. According to Khurshid, true national stability relies on honoring the diverse belief systems that the Constitution was drafted to safeguard.

Shia cleric Saif Abbas reinforced this stance by emphasizing that the authority of the Constitution remains absolute. He dismissed concerns regarding threats to the Hindu community as political theater, labeling them distractions from urgent societal problems. Abbas pointed to a noticeable decline in public confidence regarding institutions like the Ayodhya Trust, suggesting that shifting focus toward religious polarization serves only to obscure the real challenges facing the citizenry.
