A Congress delegation, led by Uttar Pradesh in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, is preparing a formal complaint to demand the resignation of the Meerut Superintendent of Police. The group, which includes six Lok Sabha MPs from the state and representatives from the Rajya Sabha, intends to challenge the official narrative surrounding the investigation. This move follows previous visits by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, both of whom have utilized the incident to highlight systemic failures in law enforcement.
Lalita Gautam, a final-year BA student, disappeared from the TP Nagar area before her body was recovered two days later. While police maintain that the primary suspect is in custody and the legal process is underway, the atmosphere in Thirot village remains volatile. Local authorities have deployed a heavy security cordon across the Rohta area to prevent further unrest. Despite the police presence, ongoing reports of clashes and inflammatory activity by unidentified groups continue to test the administration's ability to maintain order ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
