Congress leader Jebi Mather amplified the controversy on Sunday, framing the incident as part of a broader pattern of interference seen previously in Assam, Punjab, and Maharashtra. Mather characterized the BJP’s approach as a direct assault on the democratic fabric of the region. The alleged attempt to flip a legislator was met with a firm refusal, a move Abdullah highlighted to demonstrate the resilience of his party members against such inducements.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary joined the chorus of condemnation, accusing the BJP of relying on deception as a core political strategy. He argued that the current National Conference administration holds its mandate under the constitutional framework established by B.R. Ambedkar, and questioned the moral standing of those attempting to circumvent the will of the electorate through financial leverage.
