ADB Grants $2 Million to Support Southern Thailand Flood Recovery

More than 3.8 million people across 12 provinces are navigating the aftermath of Southern Thailand’s most severe flooding in 15 years. The Asian Development Bank has stepped in with a $2 million grant to bolster local relief efforts, targeting critical infrastructure and essential public health services damaged by the November 2025 disaster.

The funding, channeled through the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Facility, aims to stabilize communities struggling to rebuild their livelihoods. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul accepted the grant during a ceremony in Songkhla Province, a region that bore the brunt of the monsoon destruction. The capital injection is specifically earmarked to support healthcare facilities, including the heavily damaged Hat Yai Hospital, ensuring that residents retain access to vital medical services during the long-term recovery phase.

Nianshan Zhang, ADB Director General for Southeast Asia, emphasized that the bank’s contribution functions as a supplement to the Thai government’s ongoing disaster response. By targeting both immediate relief and the restoration of public infrastructure, the aid seeks to address the vulnerabilities exposed when the region’s drainage systems were overwhelmed by record rainfall. As recovery efforts continue, the grant provides a financial buffer for local authorities tasked with managing the extensive damage to homes, roads, and businesses across more than 100 districts.
