IDB and Korea National Police Partner to Modernize Latin American Security

The Inter-American Development Bank and the Korea National Police Agency have launched a formal partnership to overhaul public safety across Latin America and the Caribbean. By integrating South Korea’s specialized policing model with regional financial support, the initiative aims to deploy advanced investigative technology and institutional reform.

This collaboration centers on the implementation of the "K-policing" framework, a strategy designed to sharpen intelligence capabilities at both national and municipal levels. Officials from the IDB emphasize that the pact leverages Korea's technical expertise to modernize law enforcement infrastructure, moving beyond traditional methods toward digital investigative solutions.

Emilio Pineda of the IDB’s Institutions for Development Sector noted that the project represents a shift toward more innovative responses to regional security threats. The effort includes technical consultations and knowledge-sharing programs aimed at building institutional resilience. Jun Sung Park, Director General for International Cooperation at the KNPA, added that the partnership creates a direct pipeline for sharing operational knowledge, ultimately focusing on crime prevention and the long-term stability of public security systems throughout the region.
