The initiative targets a comprehensive overhaul of regional infrastructure, ranging from transport networks and water systems to healthcare and environmental management. By aligning these developments with market demand, the program intends to increase visitor spending and extend the duration of stays. Local businesses, including artisans and transport providers, are positioned to capture the growth generated by enhanced site accessibility and upgraded facilities.

World Bank Division Director Ariel Yepez characterized the project as a strategic template for regional development. By synchronizing tourism promotion with investments in civil engineering and sustainability, the government expects to lower barriers for private capital. The Regional Government of Arequipa will oversee implementation alongside the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, testing whether a coordinated cross-sector approach can effectively unlock the untapped economic potential of Peru’s southern provinces.
