Deputy Director Andiswa Matinise emphasized that the province’s 2030 poverty eradication targets rely on the commitment of these producers. She lauded extension staff as the department’s ground heroes, providing the technical expertise necessary for sustainable growth. Farmer Andile Ndzendze urged the sector to pivot toward agro-processing and defend indigenous agricultural knowledge, ensuring that traditional practices remain protected as valuable intellectual property.

Director Noluvuyo Nqeno challenged established farmers to cultivate the next generation by integrating youth into farm administration and modern technology. Addressing the reality that 27% of Eastern Cape households struggle with food access, the department is using this awards program to incentivize excellence and foster collaboration. Key honorees included Tyhopho Trading Enterprise, which secured the Overall Winner title, and veteran official Dumisa Mlanjeni, who received a lifetime achievement award for over three decades of service.
