The demonstration, organized by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Central Labour Division, drew a coalition of former public servants, including doctors, nurses, and labor representatives. Protesters argued that municipal authorities have ignored both legal mandates and previous assurances regarding the disbursement of long-overdue gratuity and pension payments.
Senior MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar addressed the crowd, highlighting the plight of employees who have spent years waiting for their own savings. He challenged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to authorize the release of the outstanding funds, noting that the sum represents a small fraction of the province's annual budget. Beyond the retirement benefits, the party is demanding the immediate application of a 12 percent salary increase approved in the 2025-26 fiscal budget and pending pay revisions for Water Corporation staff. Sattar characterized these outstanding payments not as favors, but as statutory obligations that the provincial government has failed to honor despite clear directives from the Sindh High Court.
