Iran Targets U.S. Military Sites as Conflict Escalates in Gulf

Iranian armed forces launched a wave of strikes against U.S. military infrastructure across Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain on Thursday, shattering a fragile three-week ceasefire. The offensive follows reports of explosions near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant, occurring just as the nation concluded the funeral rites for late leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The coordinated strikes targeted Patriot missile systems in Kuwait, an early-warning site in Qatar, and a fuel depot in Bahrain. Kuwaiti authorities reported intercepting a cruise missile, three ballistic missiles, and ten drones, noting one injury from shrapnel. Simultaneously, Iranian missiles triggered air raid sirens in Jordan, where the Revolutionary Guards claimed to have struck the Azraq military base. These actions mark a violent shift in a conflict that began on February 28, following a U.S.-Israeli barrage that triggered regional instability and disrupted global energy flows.

The escalation comes as U.S. President Donald Trump declared the recent truce void, citing attacks on Saudi and Qatari shipping vessels. While Washington maintains that technical talks remain ongoing, the U.S. Central Command recently confirmed strikes on 90 Iranian military targets, including drone storage sites and coastal surveillance assets, in response to tanker attacks. Despite the intensification of hostilities, the Revolutionary Guards assert they have restored 50% of pre-war transit capacity through the Strait of Hormuz, insisting the waterway will only reopen under Tehran’s specific regulatory arrangements.
