Roommate's testimony to be played in Charlie Kirk murder hearing

A partially redacted video interview featuring Lance Twiggs, the roommate of accused shooter Tyler Robinson, will air in a Utah courtroom this Thursday. The footage serves as a pivotal moment in the preliminary hearing for the September 2025 assassination of Charlie Kirk, a prominent political figure killed at Utah Valley University.

Judge Tony Graf rejected defense efforts to block the audio, which prosecutors claim contains a direct confession from Robinson regarding the shooting. During the hearing, District Attorney Lauren Hunt confirmed that Twiggs provided the statement under an immunity agreement, opting to record his account rather than testify in person. Jeffrey Neiman, representing Kirk’s widow, Erika, argued that the family deserves full transparency after waiting ten months for the case to reach this stage.

Robinson, a former electrical student, has yet to enter a formal plea. His defense team maintains that investigators ignored evidence suggesting other potential participants in the attack, warning that publicizing the interview could unfairly prejudice future jurors. Prosecutors intend to leverage the recording, alongside recovered text messages and digital correspondence, to establish that Robinson targeted Kirk specifically due to his conservative political advocacy. In one exchange cited in court filings, Robinson allegedly told Twiggs that he acted because he had grown tired of Kirk’s perceived hatred, stating that some animosity cannot be negotiated away. The defense continues to challenge the prosecution’s narrative of a politically motivated assassination, a distinction that carries significant weight regarding potential death penalty sentencing.
