The rebranding effort carried a price tag of $5.5 million. While the airport’s official name changed immediately, the Federal Aviation Administration identifier code transitioned from PBI to DJT this week. Travelers booking flights will continue using the legacy PBI designation until August 18, when reservation systems and baggage tags are scheduled to update across the board.
Eric Trump, who arrived at the airport on a private flight in the early hours of Thursday, championed the move as a natural fit for the region. The renaming aligns with a broader trend of affixing the former president’s name to various federal programs and infrastructure projects, including government-run prescription drug sites and planned Navy warships. Unlike the recent push to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts—a move blocked by the courts—this airport project secured swift legislative approval in March. The facility joins a select group of U.S. airports named after political figures, such as Little Rock’s airport, which honors Bill and Hillary Clinton.
