Igor R. and his wife, Irina, were found guilty of tracking Russian opposition figures residing in Poland and mapping the networks that provide them support. The investigation into the couple gained momentum following a broader European alert triggered by a series of explosive packages intercepted at courier depots in Britain, Germany, and the outskirts of Warsaw in July 2024. While Moscow continues to deny any state involvement in the distribution of incendiary parcels, Polish prosecutors successfully argued that the pair acted as conduits for Russian intelligence.
The court handed down a three-year sentence to Irina, while Igor R. faced the harsher penalty due to his active participation in the logistics of the courier-based sabotage plot. The proceedings underscore the intensifying scrutiny of clandestine activities on Polish soil as regional authorities attempt to dismantle networks suspected of coordinating cross-border attacks.
