Trump Opts for Vintage Air Force One on UK Trip

Former President Donald Trump plans to fly an older model of Air Force One from Turkey to the United Kingdom, citing a nostalgic preference for the legacy aircraft. This decision arrives just as a newly refurbished Boeing 747, a gift from Qatar to the United States, prepares for its public debut at RAF Mildenhall.

The updated aircraft, retrofitted by defense contractor L3Harris Technologies, features a bespoke exterior color scheme of red, white, dark blue, and gold—a design personally conceptualized by Trump. While the jet is intended to serve as a showcase for U.S. service members to inspect its modern upgrades, the transition has drawn scrutiny.

Integrating the donated jet into the presidential fleet necessitated extensive security modifications, including the installation of advanced communication suites and robust missile defense systems. These upgrades were deemed essential to maintain the rigorous safety standards required for high-level government transport, highlighting the complexities of incorporating private or gifted assets into official state operations.
