Trump Threatens Escalation After Declaring Iran Deal Void

Standing before NATO leaders in Ankara, Donald Trump issued a sharp ultimatum to Tehran, vowing to hit the Islamic Republic "very hard" tonight. His comments followed a series of retaliatory strikes on Iranian port cities, marking the formal collapse of an interim memorandum of understanding intended to de-escalate regional maritime tensions.

The President’s remarks at the NATO summit signaled a decisive shift toward confrontation, accusing Iranian leadership of bad-faith negotiations and decades of aggression. Trump described the regime as having "misbehaved for 47 years," citing the targeting of American military personnel and the use of drones against naval vessels in the Gulf. Earlier Wednesday, U.S. forces struck assets in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Qeshm Island in response to alleged attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

While Trump speculated about the possibility of further strikes against Iranian infrastructure, including electricity grids and water supplies, he simultaneously signaled a reluctance to pursue total destruction. He clarified that the current U.S. naval blockade is strictly limited to Iranian interests, leaving other regional maritime traffic unaffected. Despite declaring the diplomatic deal "over," the President suggested he would remain open to future talks, even as he cast doubt on the sincerity of Iranian counterparts who he claimed deny the existence of private negotiations during public press conferences.
