The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency confirmed the latest vessel sustained minor structural damage but reported no casualties or environmental leaks. The ship continues its journey to its destination port. This follows an earlier attack off the coast of Oman, where a projectile struck the port side of a tanker, triggering a fire as it attempted to exit the strait toward the Gulf of Oman.
Qatari officials were quick to condemn the targeting of the Al Rekayyat, labeling it a direct violation of international law and a threat to global energy security. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari held Iran legally responsible for the strike. Iranian state media alleged the vessel was targeted for ignoring maritime warnings, though Tehran stopped short of officially claiming the operation.
These hostilities coincide with Iran’s recent assertion that only its designated routes through the Strait of Hormuz are considered safe. Last Thursday, the nation's joint military command threatened a rapid, decisive response against any U.S. interference in the area. Tensions remain at a breaking point as diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran are effectively frozen following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
