NCERT Revises Political Science Curriculum to Strengthen Judicial Focus

Following a public outcry over allegations of judicial bias in previous study materials, the National Council of Educational Research and Training has overhauled its Class 9 Political Science textbook. The new volume explicitly codifies the independence of the courts to distance the educational framework from recent institutional controversies.

NCERT Revises Political Science Curriculum to Strengthen Judicial Focus

The curriculum, aligned with the latest National Curriculum Framework, reinforces the doctrine of separation of powers. It details the judiciary's mandate to act as a check on both legislative and executive branches, specifically outlining the authority to invalidate laws or constitutional amendments that breach fundamental legal standards. This structural change replaces content that previously sparked a national debate regarding judicial integrity.

The revision follows the high-profile withdrawal of a Class 8 Social Science textbook. After the Supreme Court flagged concerns regarding passages describing judicial corruption, the council pulled the material and issued a formal apology. By integrating constitutional themes across multiple grade levels, the council aims to standardize the narrative surrounding the role of the courts in a democracy.
