Sikorsky to Fund $6 Million White House Helipad Upgrade

The South Lawn is getting a reinforced landing zone as Sikorsky, the manufacturer of the presidential Marine One fleet, steps in to cover the $5 million to $6 million cost of a new helipad. The project aims to mitigate structural damage caused by the immense power of the latest generation of aircraft.

President Donald Trump confirmed the arrangement on Monday, noting that the upgrade became necessary after the heavy, high-performance helicopters began leaving visible wear on the White House grounds. The President, who previously expressed surprise at the force generated during arrivals, requested that the new pad feature a custom-carved White House seal.

Lockheed Martin, the parent company of Sikorsky, verified the financial commitment, emphasizing that the funding aligns with federal regulations and procurement standards. The move follows the 2024 rollout of upgraded Marine One helicopters by the U.S. Navy, which boast increased payload capacities and advanced performance metrics that proved too demanding for the existing infrastructure.
