Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu anticipates that between June and September alone, the sector will inject €64 billion into the Spanish economy. This figure represents a 10% increase over the same period last year, underscoring the vital role tourism plays in national growth. Officials expect 43 million arrivals during these months, a 6% rise in volume that tests the country's infrastructure.
To counter traditional coastal overcrowding, the government is actively promoting inland travel. This strategy is bolstered by the rare solar eclipse occurring in August, which is drawing interest toward interior regions. By diversifying destinations, authorities aim to manage the massive influx of visitors more sustainably while ensuring that the benefits of this tourism boom extend beyond the Mediterranean shoreline.
