Karnataka Opposition Alleges Voter Verification Irregularities

Allegations of procedural violations during voter verification have ignited a political clash in Karnataka, as opposition leaders claim government officials are bypassing door-to-door mandates. Janata Dal (Secular) MLC SL Bhojegowda and BJP figures argue that recent enumeration practices favor political manipulation rather than electoral integrity.

The controversy centers on video evidence released by HD Kumaraswamy, which purportedly shows Block Level Officers conducting group enumerations in community halls instead of visiting individual households. Joining forces with BJP leaders Pralhad Joshi and R Ashoka, Kumaraswamy met with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer to demand a formal inquiry into the Special Intensive Revision exercise, citing deep concerns over potential executive influence.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has dismissed these claims, characterizing the opposition’s outcry as a reaction to the government's aggressive public awareness campaigns. Shivakumar maintains that the state is merely streamlining administrative access, pointing to the millions of citizens now utilizing online portals to secure caste and income certificates. He contends that the administration remains neutral, framing the tension as a political response to the successful digitalization of state services.
