Election Commission Sets July 30 Polls for Three Key Seats

Voters in Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh head to the polls on July 30 to fill legislative vacancies that have left three assembly constituencies without representation. The Election Commission of India confirmed the schedule for Bankipur, Manjalpur, and Datia, launching a condensed electoral calendar that concludes in early August.

Candidates have until July 13 to file nominations for the upcoming contests. Election officials will conduct scrutiny of the submissions on July 14, providing a window for withdrawals that closes on July 16. On election day, polling stations will remain open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the entire administrative process set to wrap up by August 4, 2026.

The vacancies stem from a mix of political turnover and personal tragedy. In Bihar, the Bankipur seat opened following Nitin Nabin’s resignation on March 30. Gujarat’s Manjalpur constituency requires a new representative after the death of Yogeshbhai Narandas Patel on June 2. Finally, the Datia seat in Madhya Pradesh became available after the legal disqualification of Rajendra Bharti on April 2. State gazettes have formally published the schedule to finalize the electoral timeline.
