Karnataka Opposition Demands Audit of Electoral Roll Revisions

Allegations of procedural malpractice have stalled the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka, prompting a coalition of opposition leaders to demand a total restart. Critics claim that current verification efforts bypass mandatory door-to-door protocols, potentially compromising the integrity of the voter registration process across the state.

JD(S) MLA MT Krishnappa has formally requested that authorities halt the ongoing distribution process, insisting that Booth Level Officers conduct a comprehensive, in-person verification. This push for transparency follows evidence presented by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who released footage showing registration forms being processed at sites such as mosques and community halls rather than through established Gram Panchayat channels.

Simultaneously, BJP MLA G.B. Jyothi Ganesh has leveled accusations against Congress officials, alleging they are exerting improper pressure on election staff to register ineligible voters. These collective grievances have moved the debate to the Election Commission of India, with opposition figures demanding an immediate investigation to ensure that the revised rolls reflect legitimate residency and eligibility requirements rather than partisan interests.
