Russian Missile Barrage Hits Kyiv Residential Districts

Seven people are confirmed dead and 24 injured following a coordinated Russian missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Monday. Rescue teams are currently searching the rubble of shattered apartment blocks, as the strike marks another surge in violence only days after a previous attack claimed 30 lives.

The historic Podilskyi district bore the brunt of the violence, where four residential buildings sustained heavy damage. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that emergency crews evacuated 15 residents, including six children, from a partially collapsed structure where two bodies were recovered. In the Darnytskyi district, falling drone debris struck a 25-storey apartment building, resulting in two additional fatalities and leaving residents trapped on the upper floors.

Fires broke out across multiple high-rise buildings, forcing firefighters to navigate treacherous structural damage while thick smoke blanketed the city. As air raid sirens sounded throughout the night, residents sought refuge in underground metro stations. The intensity of the bombardment prompted Poland to scramble fighter jets as a precautionary measure, highlighting the spillover risks to NATO territory. With rescue operations ongoing, officials warn that the casualty count may rise as search teams clear the debris of the capital's residential landscape.
