The attack occurred around 12:30 p.m. near the girl’s home, roughly 170 miles northwest of San Francisco. According to the Tehama County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived to find the victim suffering from extensive wounds. Her grandmother, Monica Edmiston, later detailed the severity of the encounter on a GoFundMe page, stating that the animals had ripped the child’s scalp off.
Following the attack, the girl underwent emergency surgery and spent several days in critical condition. Her family, including her father and brothers, maintained a constant vigil throughout her stay, often sleeping in their car to remain close to the medical facility. The community rallied behind the family, donating over $4,100 to cover travel and living expenses while they were displaced in Sacramento.
Tehama County authorities have since seized six dogs believed to be involved in the incident, transporting them to a local animal shelter as evidence. While the investigation remains active, officials have not yet disclosed the breeds of the animals, their ownership, or potential legal consequences for the owners. Patricia was discharged on June 30, though her family notes that she faces a long and challenging road to recovery.
