Iran and Qatar Restart Gulf Maritime Trade Routes

After a five-month hiatus, cargo ships are once again crossing the Gulf between Iran’s Dayyer port and Qatar’s Al Ruwais terminal. The resumption follows an interim agreement between Tehran and Washington, effectively cooling the hostilities that halted regional shipping and left critical port infrastructure damaged during the recent four-month conflict.

The restoration of this maritime link was confirmed Sunday by Iran’s commercial attaché in Doha. Officials noted that the revival required intensive coordination between the Iranian embassy and Qatari authorities to navigate the lingering transit risks still present in the contested waters. While the reopening signals a broader normalization, the region remains cautious as shipping lanes recover from the recent volatility.

This development aligns with broader signs of stabilization in Gulf commerce. Iranian officials recently reported that products are once again clearing customs at the UAE’s Jebel Ali Port, suggesting that the supply chain disruptions of the last several months are beginning to subside. Despite these gains, the long-term reliability of these routes depends on the durability of the current diplomatic de-escalation.
