TMC Faces Internal Friction Following Bhattacharya Resignation

Locked doors at the Trinamool Bhavan and a flurry of accusations have signaled a deepening rift within West Bengal's ruling party. The resignation of Chandrima Bhattacharya from all organizational posts, prompted by allegations of facilitating a rebel faction takeover, has forced senior leadership to publicly defend the party's stability.

Senior leader Kalyan Banerjee dismissed the fallout as inconsequential to the broader movement, framing the party’s foundation as inextricably linked to Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. The tension reached a boiling point after the state unit head accused Bhattacharya of granting the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebels access to the party office, a charge that reportedly stung Bhattacharya deeply.

Beyond the administrative reshuffle, the friction has spilled into public discourse. Kunal Ghosh targeted Bhattacharya’s conduct, characterizing her alleged defiance as a vestige of her past ministerial influence. With the state office temporarily shuttered amid rumors of a hostile takeover, the incident highlights a growing struggle to maintain cohesion as internal factions challenge the party’s established hierarchy.
