TMC Offices Under Siege as Factional Rivalry Spills Into Kolkata

A sharp escalation in West Bengal’s political volatility saw TMC MP Saugata Roy accuse the BJP of orchestrating a campaign to seize party offices. The standoff intensified after a rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee reportedly occupied the party’s Kolkata headquarters, triggering a confrontation that drew in local law enforcement.

Saugata Roy dismissed the rebel faction’s claims to legitimacy, pointing to Banerjee’s past ties with the CPM as evidence of a lack of ideological alignment with the Trinamool Congress. The conflict reached a breaking point at the party headquarters, where Roy alleged that supporters of the takeover locked the premises. He stated that police officers on site prevented him from accessing the building, a move he characterized as evidence of state-level interference backed by the BJP.

The internal crisis shows signs of deepening beyond the physical seizure of property. The resignation of senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya has introduced further instability to the party hierarchy. Roy maintains that the maneuvering is a calculated effort to destabilize TMC grassroots operations throughout the region, though the opposition continues to frame the internal dissent as a natural consequence of the party's current leadership struggles.
