Parliament Braces for High-Stakes Monsoon Session

A 130th Constitution Amendment Bill proposing the automatic removal of detained top officials will dominate the Monsoon Session of Parliament, scheduled from July 20 to August 13, 2026. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the session, which promises a volatile atmosphere as opposition parties prepare to challenge the government's legislative agenda.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee is expected to present its findings on the contentious bill, which mandates the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers if they are detained for 30 consecutive days on serious charges. While the provision has sparked fierce pushback, the forthcoming report will likely introduce safeguards intended to prevent the clause from being weaponized for political retribution.

Beyond constitutional reform, the session faces a direct confrontation over national security oversight. Congress has leveled allegations of misinformation against Defence Minister Rajnath Singh concerning Indian casualties during Operation Sindoor. With these proceedings looming, the floor of the house is set for a sharp clash between the administration and the opposition, testing the government's stability throughout the three-week sitting.
