INDIA Bloc Appeals to Chief Justice Over Election Commission Conduct

Alleging a systematic erosion of public trust, the INDIA opposition bloc has formally petitioned the Chief Justice of India to intervene in the Election Commission’s operations. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh spearheaded the move, citing a pattern of partisan behavior during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The coalition, which includes the Aam Aadmi Party and the DMK, contends that the current electoral framework is failing to ensure transparency. Ramesh explicitly linked these concerns to the conduct of Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing the body of overseeing widespread irregularities that facilitate the manipulation of vote counts and seat allocations.

Beyond administrative grievances, the opposition has connected these electoral challenges to broader allegations of systemic corruption. Ramesh characterized the issues as a byproduct of a "triple-engine" government, drawing parallels between the commission's perceived shortcomings and controversies surrounding the Ram Mandir project donation audits. The joint letter serves as a tactical escalation in the bloc’s ongoing campaign to secure judicial oversight of democratic processes ahead of future contests.
