Jaishankar affirms India-US ties as America marks 250th anniversary

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar extended official greetings to the United States on Saturday, commemorating the nation’s 250th Independence anniversary. Addressing US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the minister signaled a commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between New Delhi and Washington during this milestone year.

The message follows President Donald Trump’s formal proclamation of July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. In his address, Trump emphasized the nation's historical milestones while framing the occasion as the dawn of a new American Golden Age. This diplomatic exchange underscores a sustained effort to reinforce ties that have gained momentum through recent high-level engagements.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor recently echoed this sentiment during celebrations in Hyderabad, describing the bilateral connection as a testament to enduring friendship. Gor credited the personal rapport between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with unlocking significant potential for the two countries. As negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement reach their final stages—with only minor legal text remaining—both nations appear focused on leveraging this trust to shape the coming decades of global policy.
