Russian Glide Bomb Strike Claims Lives in Sumy City Center

A Russian glide bomb tore through a residential block in Sumy on Sunday, killing at least four people—including a five-year-old girl and her mother—and leaving 27 others wounded. The blast struck a high-rise apartment building and a nearby street, catching civilians during a busy hour in the northern Ukrainian city.

Regional Governor Oleh Hryhorov confirmed the toll, noting that a 13-year-old remains in critical condition among the injured. Rescue teams worked through the wreckage of the apartment complex and a local shop while medics treated survivors at the scene. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy released footage of the aftermath, depicting emergency workers navigating the rubble, and renewed his appeal for international allies to intensify pressure on Moscow to stop the campaign of aerial attacks.

Sumy, situated directly on the Russian border, has become a frequent target as Moscow pushes to establish a buffer zone in the region. The assault was part of a wider escalation that saw 50 separate strikes across the Dnipropetrovsk region on the same day. While Kyiv declared a day of mourning for victims of recent bombardments, authorities continue to account for the casualties in the northern front's latest tragedy.
