Kyiv Reels After Massive Pre-Dawn Missile and Drone Assault

At least 27 people are dead and 130 buildings lie in ruins after a relentless wave of Russian missiles and drones slammed into Kyiv during the early hours of Thursday. The city was rocked by a series of high-impact explosions, shattering the capital’s relative calm in one of the deadliest strikes this year.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy cut short a diplomatic mission to return to the capital, publicly castigating international allies for the delayed delivery of critical air defense systems. He argued that the current death toll and structural devastation were preventable had promised military support arrived on schedule. This failure to secure the skies will dominate discussions at the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey.

Russian forces framed the campaign as retaliation for recent Ukrainian strikes against targets within Russian borders. The barrage drew sharp condemnation from Western officials, including EU ambassador Katarina Mathernova, who characterized the onslaught as an attempt to unleash hell upon the city. Kyiv has officially declared a day of mourning to honor the victims of the attack.
