Modi and Takaichi Cement Ties with Personal Diplomatic Gesture

During the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi as "Choti Behen," a term for "younger sister." The gesture, noted by Japanese Press Secretary Toshihiro Kitamura, served as the opening note for a visit aimed at strengthening the personal rapport between the two heads of state.

This trip marks the first time Takaichi has traveled to India since assuming office last October. Beyond the symbolic camaraderie, the meetings held from July 1 to 3 focused on expanding the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The leaders navigated a complex agenda covering economic security, artificial intelligence, and the transition toward clean energy.

Kitamura emphasized that cultivating a foundation of trust remains the primary objective of this diplomatic engagement. By aligning their interests on global technological and energy challenges, both nations seek to deepen a synergy that has become increasingly vital to their shared strategic interests.
