Rajasthan Launches VB-G RAM G Scheme to Overhaul Rural Employment

Under the shadow of a rebranding controversy, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has unveiled the VB-G RAM G Yojana in Masuda. The initiative, framed as a cornerstone of rural prosperity under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, promises to extend guaranteed wage employment to 125 days for households starting July 2026.

The rollout at the Masuda Krishi Upaj Mandi featured a significant infusion of capital, with Chief Minister Sharma distributing Rs 3.31 crore in credit linkage cheques to self-help groups. The event also highlighted the Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi schemes, providing additional loan support alongside the distribution of scooters to Community Level Federation managers. Beneficiaries also received housing assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, signaling a broader push toward infrastructure and social security.

The scheme’s core mandate, the VB-G RAM G Act, shifts the focus toward efficiency by utilizing Direct Benefit Transfer for wage payments. While government officials emphasize the program's potential to bolster rural livelihoods, the initiative has drawn fire from critics. The primary contention centers on the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the existing employment framework and adjustments to the established fund-sharing structure between state and federal authorities.
