Election Commission Sets July 30 Polls for Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh

The Election Commission of India has scheduled by-elections for three key Assembly seats across Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh on July 30, with vote counting set to begin August 3. The announcement triggers an immediate enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct in the affected constituencies to ensure procedural integrity.

The Datia seat in Madhya Pradesh faces a high-stakes contest following the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti. His removal stems from a fraud conviction, overturning his surprise 2023 victory against senior BJP leader and former state Home Minister Narottam Mishra. Meanwhile, Gujarat’s Manjalpur seat remains vacant after the passing of BJP MLA Yogeshbhai Narandas Patel, and Bihar’s Bankipur constituency requires a new representative following the resignation of BJP President Nitin Nabin.

Election officials confirmed that electronic voting machines and voter verifiable paper audit trails will be deployed across all polling stations. Candidates have until July 13 to file their nominations, with a scrutiny period on July 14 and a final deadline for withdrawals on July 16.
